Web 2.0 belongs to O’Reilly? Sunday, May 28, 2006

So Ars Technica had a pretty interesting news today. Apparently an Irish non-profit company called IT@Cork (pardon, but what kind of name is that?) had plans to host a "Web 2.0 Conference" this coming June 8th and since the conference title had the phrase "Web 2.0" in it, CMP Media in conjunction with O'Reilly sent a cease-and-desist letter to IT@Cork because CMP had already filed for a trademark on the phrase. They call it their "service mark" for their conferences.

Hmmm… maybe someone should just trademark "Web" or "Blog" or something…
